Just upgraded my WithKnown site to the latest master. Slightly hair raising, but excellent help from @mapkyca got me over the hurdles. Only downside, currently, seems to be the plugin that syndicates to Twitter.
I’m being hit by a wave of spam to sign-up forms, rather than comments, and I cannot fathom what’s in it for the spammers. No clue.
I like the idea of a "tryout" tag for new websites that seem interesting enough to subscribe to, so I am promptly starting to do just that.

Frustrated attempt to create my first EC2 instance AND connect to it. Launching it with defaults went fine, but connecting kept timing out, and after going through all the troubleshooting it is still timing out. Stopped, for now.

@jeremycherfas That happens to me sometimes and is usually due to a missing security group rule. I find AWS issues to be mind-bogglingly hard to track down. They write millions of words of documentation but for some reason I can never find the answer I'm looking for.

@jsanchez True ... But there is also a set and forget aspect to it, once you have it working. At least, that has been my experience with S3. This is the first time I have tried to use EC2.

Yes! If you are logged in, the feed contains all the checkins, and also some posts with you on the list. If you go to /private, you will see all the posts where you are on the list (or it's empty, in which case: sorry).

I’m not even clear if an article like that on Medium gets the writer a $ return or not. Assume it does for the regular contributor (like Bittman) but doubtful on the occasional. That changes my attitude on payment for material. Maybe @bittman knows & will tell us.

Seems to me that your home page is great as a professional About page. Just add some #indieweb markup like an h-card. You have a contact form, which is important, what more do you need?

Thanks for your thoughts Aaron. You raise an issue that hadn't occurred to me: being able to eat things that you don't get at home because nobody else likes those things. I do that when I'm eating out, even if I'm not alone, but yes, that works too.

Fine article on global diets, but lord it is annoying to discover that an image credit is baked into the image. Makes tracking down the original, so that I can give credit if I use it, that much more difficult.

Very hard to believe that Tanner Campbell chose to put his very IndieWeb idea about podcasting on Medium rather than on his own domain. Of course, the idea will never work because the big players don't need it and the small ones won't hurt anyone by witholding their labour.
Fastmail users: Is it possibly to delete the attachments from a batch of emails either as a batch or with a script of some sort?
I do not want to delete the emails, only the attachments.

Friends of the Fountain Pen: How do you cope with bottles of ink that are wide and shallow? Is a syringe the only option for making use of the remaining ink when the pen filler simply won't work?

@jeremycherfas I personally use a syringe. I did see someone get ink out of an almost empty bottle, by tipping the bottle. Another option would be to transfer the ink to a smaller container, such as a sampler bottle

I have never, for one second, regretted the money I spent on my chair more than 20 years ago. Not even when I had to have two technicians here to replace the seat.
